Guess?, March Mad Weather, Slow Stitching Projects from Canadian Needle Nana

I can tell by the window's light when it's time to get up in the mornings. By 6:30 there is a certain brightness creeping in that tells me it's time to start the day. How wonderful to be able to start my days by the light rather than alarm clocks. I am always thankful to be retired.

I got to a thrift store recently and had quite a good poke about. One of the things in my header photo was a real find. I'd commented before that sometimes I think things in those stores are ...

Cross Stitch Update: March 13, 2026 from Jo's Country Junction

My stitching was a little weird this week. I got some done, but it wasn’t my usual week. As you are reading this, my daughter Kelli and I are off at the Stitchery Nook shopping. They have their Needlework Market open house, and I’m so excited to be going. I can’t wait to see the …

Kitting Up Again from Jo's Country Junction

Tomorrow morning, my daughter Kelli and I are headed over to the Stitchery Nook for the Needlework Market open house. I thought it might be a good idea to pull a few projects that I plan on stitching in the near future. I’d kit them up, and if I needed any floss, I would pick …

Cross Stitch Finish: Spring Awakens from Jo's Country Junction

Last week on Friday, I decided I needed to get some cross stitch items finished. With all that has been going on with me personally and health-wise, some things have fallen behind. One thing is finishing my cross stitch pieces. I have several things that need to be fully finished. I prioritized Spring things as …

The Perfect Gifts… from Jo's Country Junction

Wednesday of last week was a tough day for me. I told you all about Arnie and me splitting up. Then I told you I got the results back from my scalp biopsy, and it showed cancer. Off-da. It was a lot for one day. My daughter Kalissa’s boys were here, and Carver wanted to …

Cross Stitch Update: March 6, 2026 from Jo's Country Junction

I got some stitching time in this week. Originally, I thought I would jump in and get started on the next block for my Garden Club series from Blackbird Designs…but that didn’t happen.  I am stitching this on Atomic Ranch’s Frieze in 40 count. It has a bit of pink and green mottling. The colors …

Hello Thursday! from Quilting My Way

Nice day! I was able to sleep in but didn't. Patrick went golfing. That game me the morning to myself. I actually sat and watched "Virgin River" on Netflix. I did notice that some of the stuff in the books are different. But it is pretty close to the books.

Patrick got home and I went for my walk. I got a call before I went out from my Gastro team in Olympia. My doctor wants me to be on the care end. A nurse or PA will call me once a month and see how I am doing ...

Laundry, Museum & Cross Stitching from Quilting My Way

This morning, I worked on the laundry. Getting all the loads I didn't get over the last week and running out of clothes. I still have a couple loads to do, but at least I was able to do quite a bit today. I ran the Roomba when Debbie called to head to the museum.

Debbie picked me up to head over to the museum to talk to Donna. I took over the 3 quilts I had as well. We stopped at DB and I got another $15 gift card, since I forgot the one I have.

Arrived at ...

Lent from From the Strawberry Patch...

We are already in the second week of Lent. Right on cue, the Lenten Roses are blooming, time marches on and spring is appearing sporadically. One day it's here and the next we're plunged back into winter. It's been a very sad time this past week, our dear daughter-in-law lost her precious mother to a horrible and aggressive brain tumor that appeared, so suddenly, just last summer. We will miss

The home stretch from Chocolate Cake Quilt Designs

Sewing and stitching took a back seat this month, as a big chunk of my time was spent poring over Texas’ six-page primary ballot, the election for which is next Tuesday. It was a slog, but we get the government we vote for, so it was an important slog.

In between ballot research sessions, I managed to make a little progress on my Hummingbird Garden cross stitch project: 11 mandalas stitched with one to go. Some back stitching needs to be added to each of the motifs, but it’s minimal so it shouldn’t be too tedious.

Can’t ...

YouTube Stitching Stars, Flicker Blocks, Slow Stitching from Canadian Needle Nana

It is happening, the lengthening of the days I mean. It is already noticeable but of course, we are still under banks of snow and will be for several more months. March can be our snowiest month here so I won't be seeing buttercups any time soon. But still, the tiny steady slivers of extra light each day add up.

And I finally managed a photo to show why this fellow is called an Eastern Cottontail. Isn't it cute! I called all rabbits "bunny rabbits" growing up. Did you?

Slow stitching- I should say really slow stitching has ...

Cross Stitch Update: February 27th, 2026 from Jo's Country Junction

I tried to get all the stitching time in that I could this week. I didn’t get my usual amount, though. It’s birthday week here at the Kramers. Gannon and Georgia both had birthdays…and Kayla was home with Jasper for a few days. Kelli stayed over and had a mom/daughter/grandkid day. It was fun. I’ll …

In the Mood from Jo's Country Junction

Well, somehow the blog went off the rails after I made a simple comment that I wasn’t in the mood to stitch patriotic lately. In my post from earlier this week, I wrote about cross stitch pieces that were coming out at Needlework Market. Many of the designers featured patriotic things and I said I …

Getting Garage Sale Ready from Quilting My Way

This morning, Patrick and I loaded up the truck. Then we dropped off 2 quilts at the church. Next was at Phil's to pick up the stuff he had to go to the sale.

We arrived at the grange to unload. It was A LOT! And they told us when we got there, we couldn't take any more stuff. So, I needed to send an SOS to stop bringing stuff for the sale. We unloaded everything. There is a lot of stuff, and I just hope we get rid of most if not all of it!

I’m so happy…I have another finish! This is called A Pleasant Sampler from Hello from Liz Mathews. I have had this kitted up for several years. One year, it was meant to be my birthday start. Then we got busy on my birthday and I didn’t start it. The next couple of days, we were …

Oops! Missed A Day from Quilting My Way

This morning, I was cleaning up. Had things to do and get done.

Once all that was done, I played games. Watched TV and played games. Wasn't in the mood to do much till around 2 pm.

Then I pulled out my cross stitching.

I worked on the upper left area. Now I'm coming back down. I had to take out a good part of the area in the top left where the green is. I had the wrong color there. So, I ripped it out and put it back in.

I was having fun with this; I ...

Week 8 of 2026 from Thread Head

I finished the set of three cross stitch characters -

I used a tutorial from Helen D. on YouTube for the finishing (I should have read her comment about how she uses oval bases now instead of a circle, but the circles worked fine this time, next time I will try oval).
These were enjoyable to stitch because once the design was blocked in, it was easy to just fill in the stitches. I used a handdyed 36 count linen, with overdyed threads (some commercial and some I over ...
